| Re: Manager Layout Screen sets and the capability to modify finder screens, results screens and the smartlinks / actions menu offers an enormous amount of functionality in configuring the UI experience for users. As you have identified, this functionality can do the majority of what you require. Personally, I have not come across performance issues by the user being able to search based on lots of different criteria. You may hit issues if you have A LOT of data in your database, but for the large clients I have worked with, we have not hit that issue.
Manager layouts are slightly different because they are slightly newer (only introduced in version 5.0, whereas screen sets have been around since around version 3.7 I believe). A lot more manager layouts were added in 5.5 and there are more to come in future releases I think.
To answer your specifics:
1. Correct: not all screens have Manager Layouts (e.g. Equipment Manager, contacts, ...)
2. Correct: fields can be hidden / unhidden, required, read-only,
3. I thought you could do this, check with Oracle support: can not change sequence of field or move from one tab to another
4. Correct and most objects have reference qualifiers and remark qualifiers: can add user defined fields as remarks or reference numbers if object has remark or reference qualifier associated
5. I thought you could do this, check with Oracle support: Not all fields displayed in the Manager Layout can be removed
If you cannot achieve what you need to do with manager layouts, then XSL modification is the next step; however, before you go too far down that path, I would genuinely check with your users whether that is required.
Branding is all covered in the branding guide and I dont have anything to add to that already pretty good documentation.
If you are working with an experienced OTM consultant, they will (should) have some good screen set / manager layout documentation available. |
