Sun cancels next-generation SPARC (Rock) CPUs

I just saw the news that Sun may be canceling the long-awaited next-gen SPARC CPU line. (Details - Sun Is Said to Cancel Big Chip Project - Bits Blog - NYTimes.com) Instead, they'll rely on Fujitsu for SPARC CPUs -- however it seems that Fujitsu has already scaled back R&D because the SPARC line isn't profitable.

Personally, I believe this is a good choice. With all of the performance testing I've done with OTM and Oracle DBs, there are other architectures and platforms that perform...

BEA WebLogic vs. Oracle OAS with OTM (G-Log)

When working with many of our Oracle OTM clients, the question inevitably comes up: "Which platform should I choose for OTM - WebLogic or OAS?" (WebSphere is rarely mentioned).

From my perspective, here's what it comes down to this:

BEA WebLogic
Pros:
  • Highest performance platform for OTM, when combined with JRockit (Linux / Win32)
  • Supported for 8 years - OTM (GC3) was developed on this platform
  • Production proven by nearly every OTM / GC3 client
  • Well known
