Question Group Rail Rates used for Rule 11 Shipments

Many of our rail rates are group to group rates. When building rule 11 shipments with these rates, we are unable to bring back the correct rule 11 route code. The current recommendation from Oracle is to enter these rates on a point to point basis which would exponentially increase the number of rates that we would need to load.

Are there any other users that are currently using the rule 11 rail functionality in OTM?
If you are using rule 11 rail rates, are you using any group to group rates for rule 11 purposes, or strictly point to point rates? In either scenario, we are interested to see how your rail rates are structured for rule 11 and if you are having any difficulty with the correct route codes being returned.

Best Regards,

Jason

Mr Beard,

Can you clarify what you mean by group-to-group? Perhaps you could provide some examples.

Re: Group Rail Rates used for Rule 11 Shipments

Hi Chris,

By group-to-group, I mean region-to-region rates. For example, a Union Pacific rate from the Houston region to the Saint Louis region. Each region would encompass many individual cities/rail stations, the rate could be used to build direct shipments or as a leg portion for rule 11 shipments.

Re: Group Rail Rates used for Rule 11 Shipments

We were able to solve most of this problem by entering point-to-point rates for the first leg of the rule 11. While it did create some additional work and rate maintainance down the road it will work for now. We are still interested to see how other customers are using the rail solution (we are still on CU3). I'll follow up with a complete detail of our rail rate setup shortly.

Re: Group Rail Rates used for Rule 11 Shipments

Hi Jason, I just started working with OTM 5.5 using the rail function. This has been setup by somebody who left the company long ago. Sometimes the shipment just splits and builds into TL shipments, and sometimes they build into Rail shipments - UGH! I have seached Hi and LOw to figure this whole thing out from scratch, - do you have any documents on Rail rates and setup?
