Manager Layout

Hi,
  1. Is there a manager layout for "Contact"?And can the same be customized??
  2. Can we add our own checkboxes to manger layouts which doesn't have a Remark or refernce qualifier field associated with it(ex:Service providers doesn't have Remark/Refnum)?
  3. Can we add our own radio buttons to manager layout?
Regards,

Moshe

Re: Manager Layout - How to Create Buttons?

Rajashree,

I dont think that you can do that. The manager layout functionality (especially in 5.5.) is a big step towards allowing clients / implementation teams to modify the OTM UI without modifying XSL. In my experience, for the majority of implementations, the existing screen set and manager layout functionality is sufficient for end user UI customisation work.

Branding, as described in the on-line branding guide is a different matter. If you post your exact requirements, I am sure someone will be able to help you on the best way forward.

Manager Layout

We are new to OTM and just getting our feet wet trying to figure out what's configurable through Screen Set and Manager Layout and what's not.

If you could verify our assumptions we would appreciate it.
-Screen Set seems highly configurable for search criteria and results, actions, ...
  • SS looks like it would be able configure all of the changes we would need
  • Our guess is that in most cases we would be removing search criteria fields and functionality
  • with so much flexibility around search criteria have OTM implementations had issues with performance being able to search on every thing?
-Manager Layout seems less configurable
  • not all screens have Manager Layouts (e.g. Equipment Manager, contacts, ...)
  • fields can be hidden / unhidden, required, read-only,
    • text: size, fixed list
    • numeric: precision, min value, max value
  • can not change sequence of field or move from one tab to another
  • can add user defined fields as remarks or reference numbers if object has remark or reference qualifier associated
  • Not all fields displayed in the Manager Layout can be removed
    • e.g. Shipment > Stops, Shipment > Identification > Booking Information
    • could NOT remove button for Financials although the Financials tab was deleted (error when pressed)
  • saved values for fields not displaying when Manager Layout is edited the second time
    • e.g. Stops ‘Show Finished Button’ check box, Identification > Post Save Navigation
If anyone has work arounds for the issues we encountered (e.g. not being able to remove the Financials button, not being able to remove certain fields, ...) please let us know.

If these assumptions are correct we assume we can use SS and ML to configure 80% of our requirements.

What's the best way to handle the other 20% where there's not a ML?
Looking at the threads it sounds like the next option is manipulating the XSL. If this is the only option what does this mean for upgrades, would the changes be upgrade safe? The branding guide seems to cover some of the information for configuring the XSL, but it doesn't provide a comprehensive guide. Any recommendations where further documentation can be found? What issues have you ran into?

Thanks for the help!!

Re: Manager Layout

Screen sets and the capability to modify finder screens, results screens and the smartlinks / actions menu offers an enormous amount of functionality in configuring the UI experience for users. As you have identified, this functionality can do the majority of what you require. Personally, I have not come across performance issues by the user being able to search based on lots of different criteria. You may hit issues if you have A LOT of data in your database, but for the large clients I have worked with, we have not hit that issue.

Manager layouts are slightly different because they are slightly newer (only introduced in version 5.0, whereas screen sets have been around since around version 3.7 I believe). A lot more manager layouts were added in 5.5 and there are more to come in future releases I think.

To answer your specifics:

1. Correct: not all screens have Manager Layouts (e.g. Equipment Manager, contacts, ...)

2. Correct: fields can be hidden / unhidden, required, read-only,

3. I thought you could do this, check with Oracle support: can not change sequence of field or move from one tab to another

4. Correct and most objects have reference qualifiers and remark qualifiers: can add user defined fields as remarks or reference numbers if object has remark or reference qualifier associated

5. I thought you could do this, check with Oracle support: Not all fields displayed in the Manager Layout can be removed

If you cannot achieve what you need to do with manager layouts, then XSL modification is the next step; however, before you go too far down that path, I would genuinely check with your users whether that is required.

Branding is all covered in the branding guide and I dont have anything to add to that already pretty good documentation.

If you are working with an experienced OTM consultant, they will (should) have some good screen set / manager layout documentation available.

Re: Manager Layout

Hello,

I can confirm #3, you're not able to change the order of he fields, or move them from one tab to another. The first is a limitation on the current Manager Layout coding, the second is a limitations of the architecture - tabs are linked to different servlets on the back-end.

I'd recommend entering an enhancement request for this functionality if you'd find it useful, that way there's a strong chance of it will turn up in a future version.
