Issues with PC*MILER

Hi everyone,
maybe this is not the right forum, but a try is worth it...

we have installed PC*MILER to compute distances for our OTM implementation.
The problems we are having are just PC*MILER-side: basically if I try to telnet the server I don't get any response, I need to use pcmsock, specifying a port (say, 8021) and then I can telnet the server on that port and get a response. OTM successfully connects to the server. I always need to run the pcmsock.exe, otherwise I cannot telnet it.
the strange thing is that the PC*MILER TCP/IP Connect service is stopped! it seems it is indipendent from the server...

What I'd like to ask you is, what did you do when you installed the distance engine? what services you're running? did you set up in any way this pcmsock.exe to specify a port, or you use the default port in the OTM configuration? Do you know what is the Windows service for the Distance Engine server?

Sorry if this seems out of scope from the forum, but we're getting quite desperate (what with the time constraints and the vacations...)

thanks in advance,
Massimiliano

Hi Massimiliano,

If you have the service as you mention, you need to start if manually the first time. After which set the service to automatically start on a reboot. You should be able to telnet from your OTM instance to that port without any problems. If you can't I would suggest contacting ALK for assistance.

Nick

Hi Nick,
thanks for the reply.
yes we have the service active, but OTM still gets connection refused. I have written to the ALK support.

thanks again and regards,
Massimiliano

Re: Issues with PC*MILER

Well there is a difference between OTM not getting a response and telneting and not getting a response. Are you able to telnet from the app server to the PC Miler on the port and get a response?

telnet pcmiler.company.com 8145

If it responds back then you have a config issue on OTM if not then the issue resides on the PC Miler configuration

Re: Issues with PC*MILER

Nick,
sorry for the double post, there is still one thing that's nagging me: what do you know about the pcmsock.exe and the PC*MILER|Connect module?

thanks
Massimiliano

Re: Issues with PC*MILER

I'm not sure as I don't use that for OTM. The only thing you need as I have mentioned is the TCP/IP module.

Re: Issues with PC*MILER

Massimiliano,

Just to confirm what Nick posted - the OTM / PCMiler integration utilizes the PCMiler TCP/IP Module, rather than the Connect module. You'll need to license and install this, in order to get PCMiler to listen on port 8145 and allow OTM to make requests.
