[SOLVED] Benchmark results Oracle 10g Db on Linux and HP-UX

Do you have some benchmark results for Oracle 10g running on
Red-Hat Linux and HP-UX 11.23 for OTM?
Does OTM support Oracle RAC? What s the benifit?

Kristof.

Re: Benchmark results Oracle 10g Db on Linux and HP-UX

Kristof,

While I was at G-Log, we never ran comparison benchmarks specifically against the DB tier - it was always against OTM, so I unfortunately don't have any hard benchmarks to reference. I can say that while working with the latest hardware on all the platforms (AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Solaris and Win32) that the DB import times and Report run times were always faster on Linux. Unfortunately I can't give more than a subjective opinion, as I don't have numbers to back this up.

Another note - while building out the MavenWire Hosting Center, we've decided to use Linux exclusively, for several reasons:
- GREAT price/performance ratio - currently the best performing OTM platform.
- Easier to manage
- Oracle develops their software first on Linux and then ports to other platforms, so running on Linux is usually an advantage.

On the second note, OTM v5.5 CU2 and up does support Oracle RAC - however I'm not aware of anyone currently running this configuration (read bleeding-edge). I tested Oracle RAC with OTM v4.5 when I was at G-Log and while it did run well, there were issues when a DB server failed and connections where transferred to the remaining server. Hopefully these are better now with Oracle DB 10gR2.

The official line from Oracle is that it is supported, but that any issues encountered will be handled by the Oracle DB support group, rather than OTM. My only concern with this tact, is that it may cause a lot of issue passing when when working on SRs, which could prolong the resolution time -- a big issue for production systems. So - test carefully!

Hope this helps!
